Crafted as a special birthday gift for my beloved sister, Splendour is an enchanting composition adorned with delicately shaded blooms and elegantly spiralling tendrils. This alluring monochromatic design will grace any chosen space with its impressive appearance.
Design story
The design is inspired by illumination from the pages of an 11th-century Qur’an manuscript. Small palmettes, which are motifs of radiating petals, are observed in the page margins to indicate the end of specific verses.
I used the roundel shape and reflected it vertically, added a horizontal band of woven decoration to join the shapes and then designed my own floral and leaf motifs to embellish the composition.
